  White crystal, granular or crystalline powder, odorlessor 

slight propanoic acid odor, Its monohydrate is used as 

food additive, PH value of its 10% solutionis8 to 10.It 

can release free propanoic acid in acidic condition,and 

can be used as antiseptic or mildew preventive of bread.
It exists in swiss cheese naturally.

Function and Usages

  It is a kind of food antiseptic and feed antiseptic,which 

has the widespread inhibitory action in the mold, the 

sacchar-omycetes and the bacterium. And using in the 

bread and pastry is as a kind of preservatives. If added in

the feed, it will effectively resist the feed to grow mildewy 

and prolong storage life. If mixed it with other inorganic 

salt, it can also enhance domestic animal's milk 

production quantity.
