Formaldehyde is colors gas with pungent smell. It is easily soluble in water, alcohol and ether. It is in gas state under normal temperature. And it takes the form of aqueous solution usually. 35-40% formaldehyde solution is named as formalin. Formaldehyde is important organic material used in synthesis of adhesive agent, for example, phenolic resin, urea resin, synthetic fiber. It is also applied in leather industry, medical industry and dyeing industry. Formalin has function of sterilization and corrosion prevention. Its diluted solution (0.1-0.5) is used in agriculture.
