Aluminum sulfate (chemical formula Al2(SO4)3, formula 342.15)
Aluminium sulfate (chemical formula Al2 (SO4) 3, type of 342.15), orthorhombic system white crystalline powder, the density of 1.69 g/mL (25 ℃) [1]. In the paper industry as rosin gum, wax emulsion and other rubber precipitant, flocculant in water treatment, but also as foam fire extinguisher retention agent, alum production, aluminum white raw materials, petroleum decolorization, deodorant, some drugs raw materials. It can also produce synthetic gemstones and high grade ammonium alum.
Aluminum sulfate, which accounts for about 50% of the total production, is used in papermaking in the first place and flocculant in drinking water, industrial water and industrial wastewater treatment in the second place, accounting for about 40% of the total production of aluminum sulfate. When aluminum sulfate is added to such water, colloidal aluminum hydroxide floccules that can adsorb and precipitate bacteria, colloids and other suspended substances can be generated and used to control the color and taste of water in drinking water treatment.

It can be used as an effective cross-linking agent of animal glue and can improve the viscosity of animal glue. Also used as a curing agent for urea formaldehyde adhesive, the curing speed of 20% aqueous solution is faster.
